Is Survey Basket a scam?

04 Jun

Survey basket is an south african survey company that claims to pay you for taking online surveys. I have been looking around for a south african survey company with something to other.

I signed up last week with survey basket for the free account and as promised their was 1 survey waiting worth 150 baskets (R15). I completed it and earned my first 150 baskets.

Yesterday morning i checked my survey basket panel and their was 1 more survey worth 250 baskets waiting for me but my account was still inactive so i decided to pay the R75 fee yesterday afternoon. This morning when i woke up and checked my panel their was suddenly two (the second also worth 250 baskets) and my account was active. So i completed both surveys witch didn’t take me more than 5 minutes each and earned another 500 baskets.

So I am already sitting on 650 baskets (R65) after paying my R75 yesterday.

I am neither pro-ing or con-ing survey basket at the moment but i am optimistic.

Will keep you informed with my progress with survey basket

Here is a quote from another blog:

“I did a bit of due diligence and found that the site belongs to a prominent person in the marketing industry. I did have a telephonic interview with the owner and everything seems above board and it seems as this is not just another fly by night survey site.

Although the domain has been registered in 2007, the concept was only launched in May last year and the panel system was only launched in August 2009. At the moment there is a big demand for proper surveys by South African companies.

At first the R75 activation fee bothered me. According to them the R75 activation fee is to make sure only serious participants apply. This makes 100% sense to me. I can see on some of the other programs which I joined in the past that thousands of people join something but in the end only about 10% the people do something. When I asked the owner of the site about this he said that he did try a survey site before and they found that people register multiple accounts and just click any answer to get money. The R75 activation fee is a way to prevent this from happening, it is kind of a screening process to ensure that they have a quality panel.

They also mention that you can get your R75 back in the form of a referral fee. You will earn 200 “baskets” per referral which is equal to R20. Like most similar programs you can only request a payout once your account reaches R100 or more. The owner of the site also confirmed that if somebody joined the site, paid his R75 and feels that it is not what he wanted it to be they will gladly refund him or her.”

I also had a look at it but decided no – A lot of these sites are only there to harvest email addresses and although they promise you all sorts of “we will never sell …………that is normally a lot of bull. (it is like these guys with money back guarantees when you have to purchase info packs) let them first be a brand name that is well known and maybe ……..

The tooth fairy and Christmas father is nice stories – but that is all they are : Nice stories !

Hey John, i have received 4 surveys to the value of R80 so far and made R20 from 1 refferal. If it is a scam then they are scamming themselves. I am going to open a post for discussion where every body that has had an experience with them can leave a comment.

I just received another survey from survey basket worth R15. I had to review the website ZoomMyFile. That brings my total on surveys alone to R95.

Also joined, received two payments already: R150 and R140 respectively, but I don’t receive surveys very often. Most of the money I made from refferals.

Yes Liesbet, not alot of surveys coming from them at the moment. The first 4 surveys I received where all general surveys. At least with the ZoomMyFile survey I received I can see they are aquiring new companies to partake.

Have been a member of Inquision and Opionate (two other south african survey companies) for more than 6 months and have not yet received a survey.

    hi,

I signed up with survey basket,

i did 3 surveys and that was it,
I never heard from them again.
    I wonder why?

They are playing and paying us with each other’s money. I paid the R75 joing fee (which I am sure one of the other members were paid with)and to date only received 2 surveys (not even close to the value of the initial R75) and never heard from them again. It is a SCAM. Do not refer people to them because they too will fall into this trap

Survey Basket state they wil give your money back if you are not happy and have not received any payments from them. Have you tried getting your money back? My own experience with them has been positive. Every person joining survey basket should know that they wil not make alot of money, but they wil make some extra cash and most of it wil come from referals at the moment.

    Hi there,

Just some help regarding the activation of the account. I did my EFT and it still displays account not active.

    Why?

How can I follow up on this except using the support ticket function coz they do not respond to that?

Hey Clarence, normally they respond within a day to your question. I also opened a support ticket yesterday with them and have had not had a response yet. It may be that they are busy.

Log into your survey basket panel and go to the support centre. You will be able to retrieve the current progress on your support ticket.

I posted this question to survey basket on Sunday, 3 October 2010 :

“A while back i asked you to leave a comment on my blog and you responded accordingly. As my blog is their to inform people i would like to know about your current progression. How are you progressing on finding new companies to partake in surveys and have you thought of setting up an affiliate program to aquire new business. I personally have received 5 surveys from you and their are members who have only received 2 or 3 surveys after paying their R75.

You can also partake in the discussion on my blog to give members more confidence. Http://bjsblog.socialpress.co.za

    Regards
    BJ Steyn”

    And here is their response:

    “Hello BJ,

Thanks for your feedback. We are struggling to get new companies on board. We have had a few in the last month or so, but as the surveys have been quite targeted, not all respondents have been exposed to these surveys (for instance, two of them were aimed at females within certain brackets, so you wouldn’t have qualified).

In terms of the way forward, we are in the process of redesigning the website, as well as still ironing out details for the affiliate programme. We hope to have this done in the next month or so.

Just to reiterate our philosophy – if you come across anyone who is unhappy at any point, we will refund them.”

Hi BJ, excellent blog you’ve got going here – keep it up! I’m registered with three survey panels companies, two overseas and one local. I’ve been paid by the overseas already, who sent me a check of R300. Unfortunately, they do not have an affiliate/referrals program, but have promised to launch it soon(Will keep the site updated on progress). The other site i’ve just joined and have received quite a number of surveys regularly, but have not reached payout levels YET!(Also no referral program yet). I’ll only reveal the names of the sites once i’ve been paid….so hang in there! I’ll join under you off course if Survey Basket gets a positive response from this blog. If anyone is interested in other legitimate business opportunities (where i’ve been paid) visit my blog!

R120 minus R75 = R45 in 5 months. Is this even worth it? I love to see small South African businesses grow so therefore I am hoping that they do manage to get more companies on board in order to make the respondent’s efforts more rewarding.

I have also made R580 on referals so far. Plus R120 equals R700. Most people would like to get paid just for taking surveys, I believe with the affiliate program , as they mentioned , coming up their surveys wil increase. Having 5, 10, 20 etc. affiliates doing marketing for them should make a difference.

Hi, I have also tried SurveyBasket, and have made a little money from it. But I signed up in April I think. And only hada few surveys. I think it will be a nice site to make money from when they have more companies asking them to do surveys. Another site I have found which is a lot easier. WebAnswers is a cool site where you get google adsense impressions from questions and answers you post on the site. You dont make much at first, but it keeps on growing. I am on it for since November and have made around R100 already that month, but looks like I will make more than that this month so far.

Hi, as very few surveys are coming from them at the moment, i would advise you to sign up for a free account and wait until you receive a few surveys to take before paying the R75. Once their affiliate program launches, surveys should pick up.

Paidforemails.co.za is a South African PTC website that pays you for clicking ads. Currently they have about R1.50 worth of clicks a day ( R45 per month ). It takes about 2-5 minutes to log in everyday and click on the ads. You earn 20% commision on any person you refer to them on ads they click. If you refer 5 people to them and they each log in everday and click on their ads you will earn another R45 per month. If they each refer 2 people, you will earn another R45 per month. You earn commisions down to 6 levels. I will create a viral email and post it here which you can you use to refer people. A viral email is an email that gets forwarded on from person to person and thus grow your downline quickly. Will try and post it tonight still.

I am working on a forum where south africans can chat about making money online, entrepeneurial ways of making money, business, investment, stock trading etc. It will be up and running hopefully by the end of the month. I am also planning on including ways for members to make money, which will come a bit later like revenue sharing, ptc, paid surveys and a few more ideas i have. So visit back month end and check if my website is up and running yet, as I will share the link in top right corner in the sidebar.

      Cheers
      BJ

Email i received from Survey Basket:

    SurveyBasket Panel becomes Enlighten Panel

SurveyBasket is changing…it’s time for more surveys and more rewards!

    Dear bj,

WE HAVE SOME EXCITING NEWS FOR YOU!

In just over a week’s time SurveyBasket Panel will become Enlighten Panel. On Friday 18 March 2011 all the members of the SurveyBasket Panel will automatically relocate to a new panel called Enlighten.

What does this mean for me?

In a nutshell, the changeover means more surveys for you, more often, as well as a range of brand new rewards and prizes from leading stores around South Africa. Enlighten is associated with one of the world’s leading panel companies – Toluna Group – which has over 4 million panel members in 34 different countries. More companies will want to know more from you!

    Why the change?

Enlighten panel, which is an initiative of Columinate (one of SA’s leading research houses and one of SurveyBasket’s partner companies), will – with the addition of SurveyBasket – become the largest independent market research panel in South Africa! The change gives every panel member access to more surveys and more rewards through a network of SA’s leading companies.

    How does it benefit me?

While Enlighten’s system is slightly different to SurveyBasket Panel’s in terms of rewards, profiles, etc., we’re making the transition as smooth as possible. You won’t even have to change your password! Overall, the new panel is aimed at providing you with a better experience as a panel member:

    * More exciting and fun surveys more often!
    * Out with the baskets and in with the points…and cool rewards.
    * Earn points (1 point = 1 Rand) for every survey and claim your points in an online gift shop (choose from a range of vouchers from Kalahari.net, Yuppiechef and edreams.co.za).
    * While your current baskets won’t be carried across, we’ll start you off with 5 points – just for being part of the new panel! Cool hey!
    * You will be automatically entered into our monthly lucky draw to win a R500 voucher from our gift shop.
    * For every survey run on the Enlighten Panel an amount gets donated to charity.
    * Opportunities to take part in discussions over and above the surveys.
    * Use the same password and username on the new panel – easy as pie.

Ok, so how what happens next?

Well, the most important thing is that you have a choice. You can either cancel your membership to the panel altogether OR you can remain on the panel, automatically transfer to Enlighten and start completing more surveys and enjoying the brand new benefits that come along with your membership:
If you want to remain a panel member and automatically get transferred to Enlighten you need to do…NOTHING! We will transfer your details to Enlighten and send you confirmation once that has been completed. This should happen around 21 March 2011 – so check your inbox regularly! If you want to cancel your membership with SurveyBasket and would not like to be transferred to Enlighten – please click HERE. You have until Friday 18 March 2011 to cancel your membership and indicate that you do not want to be a member of the Enlighten Panel. Please note that after 18 March 2011, SurveyBasket Panel will no longer exist, which means your panel membership will be cancelled and you won’t be able to complete more surveys.

    Should I do it?

Is that even a question? There’s no downside for you…we’ll transfer your membership automatically, we’ll give you more surveys, better rewards and we’ll even enter your name into a draw every single month!!

How long do I have to decide?

After Friday 18 March 2011 SurveyBasket Panel will no longer exist. If you want to continue to be rewarded for taking part in surveys then you will have to become a member of Enlighten Panel.

    Questions?

If you have any questions, please visit https://support.surveybasket.co.za/ and log a ticket.

We look forward to sending many more surveys (and rewards) your way as a member of the Enlighten panel!

    Kind Regards,
The SurveyBasket and Enlighten Panel Teams
