Billing

OUT-OF-BUNDLE DATA USAGE
• Once you’ve used up your bundle, the out-of-bundle tariff of R 0.39/MB will apply.
• Data usage will be summarized per session in bytes, and billed in 10 kilobyte increments.
• A minimum charge of R0.02 will be charged for the session (opening the connection).
• Out-of-bundle data usage is charged at the same rate during both peak and off-peak periods.

IN-BUNDLE DATA USAGE
• You will receive your data bundle which will not be charged but measured in 10KB increments.
• If a session was opened but no data was transferred for the 24 hour period an amount of bytes equal to R0.02 will be depleted from the bundle per day rounded to the nearest 10KB.
• Data usage is measured at the same applicable rate during peak and off-peak periods.
The inclusive in and out of bundle tariffs only apply to local traffic. International roaming is excluded.

OTHER USAGE
• The SIM card can be used to make calls, send SMS and MMS.
• Calls and MMS can only be made once the SIM card is put into a Cellular phone, you can also send an SMS from the Cell C connection manager software that is already installed on your computer.
• Unless you have recharged with airtime, you will not be able to make any Voice calls or send SMS or MMS messages. You will however be able to receive voice calls, SMS and MMS messages without any airtime loaded.
• To recharge for voice calls/SMS/MMS or data in excess of the included 2GB/5GB, the usual Cell C process applies: You must load pre-paid airtime, which is subject to the “all day” prepaid tariff.

What is the cost of the sim, and can you use a MTN or Vodacom stick with it, is so, do you still get the same speeds? Anyone know?

I currently use the MTN stick and is quite happy with the performance and service, but am thinking of switching – if i can increase speed, why not!!

Cell C uses new 4G networks, where MTN and Vodacom are still on 3G, which speed is 3.6mbs. On the R1499 package the modem speed is 7.2mbs and the network speed is also throttled at 7.2mbs, where with the 5GB package the speed is 21mbs.

You can buy just the data package for R999 and use your own modem, which will give you 2Gigs per month for a year at 7.2mbs speed, as long as your usb modem support those speeds.

Works fine on ubuntu 10.10, see no reason why it would not work on mint.

Used the R1499 pakage and works great. Did not connect at 7.2Mps but 4Mps. Still VERY fast compared to the slow 384 ADSL line of telkom and cheaper in terms of relative speed. Will be switch soon! Telkom is ripping us off.

Cell c has the worst customer service ive ever experienced, i swoped to them from vodacom because their cheaper but their network is always unreliable and their customer service is non existent, as long as cell c gets teir customers money they couldnt care less about them

Cell C data prices more than double over one year?!!!?!!!?

On the expiry of my one year prepaid, I will again totally ignore the Cell C brand like i did before – the speed was not as advertised at all and got worse over time (I paid R3000 for 5G p/m – for the same price you now get 2G)

I’m also dumping my Trevor Noah dvd’s right now,..

My Cell C data has just expired. It was working well for me, although i haven’t been using it for the last 4 months as I have been office bound or working from home. Haven’t had a look at there new prices yet. Why the Trevor Noah comment? :-)
